Gum nebula

Submitted by Kevin Jardine on 24 June, 2007 - 20:18

The Gum nebula (Gum 12) is a huge supernova remnant with a distance of 400 parsecs and a width of about 300 parsecs. This section contains two hydrogen-alpha images. One shows the full extent of the Gum nebula and shows a few outlying nebulae in the same field. The second image shows the area near the galactic plane and the many nebulae in that field.
